Go Forth and Be Fearless

“Go forth and be fearless.”  This was the pastoral message delivered by Metropolitan Archbishop William Skurla to the 2023 commencement class of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Seminary during the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy and Commencement celebrated on Thursday, May 11th – the Seminary’s patronal feast day.

Graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Master of Divinity was Luke Iyengar (Archeparchy of Pittsburgh).  Graduating with a Master of Arts in Theology was David Allen (Magna Cum Laude), Fr. Brian Norrell (Summa Cum Laude), and John Welch (Cum Laude).

After the liturgy and commencement ceremony, a luncheon with family and friends was enjoyed in the Seminary rectory and each graduate was given the opportunity to say a few words.  The graduates used that opportunity to thank family, friends, clergy, and religious who were instrumental in helping each achieve their educational and vocational goals.

The Archbishop concluded his homily with the stirring words of St. Francis of Assisi:  “Let us begin again, brothers, for up until now, we have done little or nothing.”  As the Seminary joyfully sends forth these Servants of the kingdom and Church leaders, we prayerfully accompany them in thanksgiving for what God has allowed each to achieve.

Commencement was preceded by our annual lecture, delivered online this year by Fr. John F. Baldovin, S.J. of Boston College School of Theology and Ministry.
