Fall 2021 Faculty Doings

Dr. Sandra Collins taught “Women in World Religions” this summer for the Osher program at the University of Pittsburgh. She offers another class this fall entitled, “Beyond Church: Sects and Cults in America” and continues to do reviews for Library Journal in the fields of Jewish studies, gender, and religion.  She also appeared twice on the podcast Vague Knowledge of Everything to discuss the religious symbolism and background to Easter and Christmas.

Dr. Jared Goff has a translation of Bonaventure’s Treatise on the Theological Virtues from III Sentences and another going to press within a few weeks: as curator and general editor of the Collected Essays of Peter Damian Fehlner, 9 volumes of Collected Essays (Wipf & Stock).  Dr. Goff also delivered a paper at the Seminary’s “Tasting the Lotus” conference (August 2021) entitled, “Bonaventura Graecus: Lyons 1274 in a Bonaventurian Context, Palamas’ Concerns and Bonaventure’s Strategies with Respect to Augustine and the filioque” (in preparation for publication in Eastern Churches Journal).  And, he is currently in the midst of a 30-part lecture series (YouTube for AirMaria.com) on the theology and spirituality of Maximilian Kolbe, OFM Conv., as interpreted by Peter Damian Fehlner, OFM Conv., providing extensive commentary on Patristic, Biblical, and Franciscan sources for Kolbe as applied to the reception of Vatican II’s ecclesiology, missions, and ecumenism.

Helenanne Hochendoner recently gave two lectures at Mt. St. Macrina entitled, “Women of the Passion and Resurrection” and “Introduction to the Desert Mothers.”  And in June of this year, she welcomed her 11th grandchild, Theodore.

Fr. Gregory Lozinskyy attended the Quinn Biblical Conference in Buffalo, MN organized for the Catholic Teachers of Scripture in June 2021 and will also be an online presenter at the yearly Associazione Biblica Italiana meeting this fall.

Dr. Matthew Minerd reports that his book, Made by God, Made for God: Catholic Morality Explained (West Chester, PA: Ascension Press, 2021) is ready for purchase from the publisher.  He has a forthcoming article in Saint Anselm Journal, scheduled for publication this fall:  “Humani Generis and the Nature of Theology: A Stereoscopic View from Rome and Toulouse.”  In addition, he has two translations in the works for publication: Jacques Maritain’s “The Philosophy of the Organism: Notes on the Function of Nutrition,” in Nova et Vetera and Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange’s Le sens commun: la philosophie de l’être et les formules dogmatiques (4th ed., 1936) as Thomistic Common Sense: The Philosophy of Being and the Development of Doctrine with Emmaus Academic. 

Fr. David Petras participated in the North American Orthodox-Catholic Theological Consultation virtual meeting and has published “Cyril Korolevsky’s Criteria for the Ruthenian Recension,” in Logos: A Journal of Eastern Christian Studies, Vol. 61 (2020), Nos. 1-4.
